The Walls of Jezebel

When you find yourself like Jezebel be a Rahab

The walls of Jericho came tumbling down after a consecrated effort directed by the Lord and lead by Joshua. Within those high walls was a harlot named Rahab. After hiding the Israelite spies she was granted safety from the approaching destruction. Rahab and her household were saved when the walls fell. The token of remembrance to the incoming army which was also an assurance to her was a scarlet cord marking her household. We see this previously exampled in Egypt with the blood on the doorposts in which all those inside were spared. So what does all this have to do with Jezebel?

Jezebel was a woman similar to Rahab, similar to us all. A wicked woman who not only sinned herself but caused others to sin. Both of these women heard the word of the Lord in their time. Jezebel did not repent but Rahab, after hearing of the work of God, feared the Lord. Rahab’s scarlet cord, like the symbol of the blood on the doorpost, marked her house and all that were in it as under the Lord’s mercy. But that wicked Jezebel was confronted by the prophet and she was cast down from her high wall and her own blood was spilled on the wall and she was trotted over by horses and the dogs ate her carcass. Let us not forget that her household, the house of Ahab, was cut off and destroyed. Let us not opine, “That’s Old Testament, we’re New Testament.” We must mature beyond such irreverent handling of the Scriptures.

We must heed the warning of Christ

“Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou suffers that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.”
Revelation 2:20

So we urge all in the love of the Lord to repent from the error of Jezebel in being soft toward adultery, in celebrating and accepting homosexuality, in seeking to lull the conscience instead of having it cleansed by the blood of Christ. The church is a candle in the presence of the Lord, a light unto the world, but when local churches not only tolerate but accept wicked and abominable sins these churches are warned that their very candlestick will be removed from the presence of the Lord save they repent. This warning applies not only to Jezebel but to her children, those taught under her. But as the warning so the promise. Do not harden your hearts. Blood always accompanies sin. The wall will be marked, either with our own blood or the blood of Christ.

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house”
Acts 16:31
